Bacterial Meningitis

What is it?
Bacterial meningitis is a potentially fatal disease that can cause major disabilities, hearing loss, amputations, hearing loss.


Causes -

Chemical irritations, drug allergies, fungi, parasites, tumors


Symptoms - 

Fever, chills, mental status changes, nausea, vomiting, sensitivity to light, severe headache, stiff neck, agitation, bulging fontanelles in babies, decreased alertness, rapid breathing, unusual posture


Signs -

Fever, fast heart rate, stiff neck, mental status changes
Doctor signs: chest x-rays, blood culture, CT scan of the head


Treatment -

Antibiotics 

Possible side effects/results - 
Could result in: brain damage, amputations, hearing loss, seizure, build up of fluid between brain and skull
